This is the story of how their paths kept crossing at the biggest amateur tournaments in the world, and the game planning and visualization Tony used to prepare for a fight that never actually happened. Tony first saw Beterbiev fight at the 2006 European Championships, where he brutally stopped both Kenny Egan and Ismayl Sillakh, two fighters Tony had already studied closely. By the time the 2008 Beijing Olympics arrived, Tony had built an entire game plan around Beterbiev using video analysis and visualization, picturing exactly how he would handle the power and create openings against a much stronger puncher. The two never actually fought, since Beterbiev was upset in the round of 16 by a Chinese fighter on the opposite side of the draw, but the years of preparation shaped how Tony trained for the biggest stage of his career.
