Undefeated three-division world champion David “El Monstro” Benavidez (32-0, 26 KOs) returns to his home state of Arizona as he looks to add the WBC cruiserweight world title to his collection when he faces Poland’s hard-hitting champion Michal Cieslak (28-2, 22 KOs). Watch the full kickoff press conference as the fighters and their teams discuss one of the biggest cruiserweight clashes of 2026, with the WBA, WBC and WBO world championships all on the line. 🥊 DAVID BENAVIDEZ VS MICHAL CIESLAK Known throughout the boxing world as “The Mexican Monster”, David Benavidez has established himself as one of the most feared fighters in the sport. The undefeated American star became a three-division world champion in May 2026 after producing a devastating sixth-round stoppage victory over Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, capturing the WBA and WBO cruiserweight world titles. Having previously enjoyed world championship success at super-middleweight and light-heavyweight, Benavidez has continued his remarkable rise through the divisions, combining relentless pressure, exceptional combinations and devastating punching power. Now, the Phoenix native returns to Arizona for his first fight in his home state since 2022, determined to unify three cruiserweight world titles and take another significant step towards becoming the undisputed champion. Standing in his way is Poland’s Michal Cieslak, a dangerous and experienced cruiserweight who arrives with an impressive record of 28 victories, including 22 knockouts. Cieslak captured the WBC interim cruiserweight championship with a fourth-round stoppage of former world champion Jean Pascal in June 2025 before being elevated to full world champion in September 2026. The Polish powerhouse enters this contest riding a seven-fight winning streak, with all seven victories coming inside the distance. Having previously challenged for world honours against Ilunga Makabu and Lawrence Okolie, Cieslak now has another opportunity to establish himself among the elite of the cruiserweight division. With both fighters renowned for their aggressive styles and knockout power, this highly anticipated championship unification promises fireworks. 🥊 VERGIL ORTIZ JR VS KEITH THURMAN The blockbuster event also features an intriguing co-main event between undefeated American star Vergil Ortiz Jr and former unified welterweight world champion Keith “One Time” Thurman. Ortiz Jr (24-0, 22 KOs) steps up to middleweight following an impressive run at super-welterweight, including his explosive second-round stoppage of Erickson Lubin in November 2025. Standing opposite him is former WBA and WBC welterweight champion Keith Thurman (31-2, 23 KOs), who will be looking to revive his career with a statement victory over one of boxing’s most exciting unbeaten fighters. The launch press conference also features Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar De La Hoya, alongside several of the rising stars appearing on the December 5 fight card. 🥊 BENAVIDEZ VS CIESLAK UNDERCARD The event will also feature: • Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Keith Thurman • Emiliano Vargas • Marco Romero • Nikita Tszyu With the cruiserweight division continuing to attract international attention, a victory for Benavidez could open the door to potential blockbuster showdowns with Jai Opetaia, Oleksandr Usyk or Artur Beterbiev. But can Michal Cieslak spoil the homecoming and take all three world championship belts back to Poland? 📍 EVENT DETAILS Event: David Benavidez vs Michal Cieslak Date: Saturday, 5 December 2026 Venue: Desert Diamond Arena Location: Glendale, Arizona, USA Main Event: WBA, WBC & WBO Cruiserweight World Title Unification Co-Main Event: Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Keith Thurman Broadcast: DAZN PPV / PBC Start Time: 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT Subscribe to SecondsOut for all the latest boxing news, exclusive interviews, press conferences, weigh-ins, face-offs, fight predictions and post-fight reactions from the biggest events in boxing.
